A new report finds that there may be life in the U.S. job market as the study finds that more American workers feel confident they can get a new job.
The New York Employee Confidence Index, part of the Spherion Employment Report, rose 2.9 points in May with workers indicating that they believe more jobs are available. In April, 88 percent of those surveyed believed there were fewer jobs available, but in May that number dropped to 77 percent.
According to the report, 41 percent of workers in New York feel confident that they can find a new job - an increase from the 36 percent who said the same thing in April.
It also appears that despite the economic climate, a growing number of workers feel confident that they can look for other work. The report found that 39 percent of respondents - up 8 percentage points from the previous month - said they are likely to look for a new job.
Linda Perneau, vice president and general manager of Spherion Staffing Services, said the report is yet another indication that the economy may be rebounding.
"As national reports continue to show signs that the recession may be bottoming out, New Yorkers' overall confidence appears to be rebounding," she said.
