Obama: Stimulus created 150,000 jobs

Obama: Stimulus created 150,000 jobs President Obama said this week that the federal stimulus bill has already led to the creation of 150,000 jobs.

During an appearance at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, the President placed a particular focus on the importance of developing renewable energy resources to create more jobs. He also highlighted other aspects of his stimulus agenda such as increased unemployment benefits and a small tax break that most workers started seeing in their paychecks earlier this year.

"There are still too many families struggling to pay the bills, and too many businesses struggling to keep their doors open. And that's why we will continue to implement the Recovery Act as quickly and effectively as possible over the next two years," said the president.

On renewable energy, Obama said the nation's dependence on foreign oil helps fund "both sides in the war on terror," and noted that the U.S. has fallen behind other countries in solar energy technology despite having pioneered it.

He also warned against a return to the "same old bubble-and-bust economy" with high credit card debt and troubled banks.

The stock market failed to respond to Obama's economic optimism on Wednesday however, with the Dow Jones average falling by about 173 points.
