Highlights
The mortgage bankers' purchase index popped back in the Aug. 3 week, up 7.4 percent to 447.4. The index had been slipping in prior weeks, but lower mortgage rates may be helping. The average 30-year fixed loan fell 9 basis points in the week to 6.41 percent. The refinancing index rose 9.1 percent to 1,881.1.
