Highlights
Spiking gas prices are cutting into discretionary spending, reflected in a 0.7 percent week-to-week decline in ICSC-UBS's same-store sales index and a +1.4 percent year-on-year rate that's down 4 tenths from the prior week. Despite the decline, ICSC-UBS still expects sales for the whole month to come in at a respectable +1.5% to +2.0% year-on-year rate. ICSC-UBS's tally, boosted by warm weather and seasonal adjustments surrounding Easter, has spiked up this month from a nearly zero reading at month-end March. Redbook, which has shown a similar spike, is up at 8:55 a.m. ET.
