Highlights
Sales at the nation's retailers popped back up in the Aug. 18 week, gaining 0.2 percent week-on-week for a still moderate 2.7 percent year-on-year rate. The report said a tax break helped sales in Texas while hot weather in the South cleared out summer goods and cold weather in the Northeast moved fall apparel. The report also noted that neither high gas prices nor the turmoil in the financial markets are hurting spending. Redbook is up next.
