Highlights
Retail sales firmed in the March 17 week, up 0.4 week-to-week and 2.7 percent year-on-year vs. 2.1 percent in the prior week. The report said unusually warm weather through much of the nation, excluding the Northeast, helped sales. But the report warned that rising gasoline prices, now at a six-month high, may begin to hurt sales. In a special survey, the report said 57 percent of households have already cut back discretionary spending due to gas prices.
