Highlights
Late Christmas and post-Christmas sales showed strength, according to ICSC-UBS's index that rose 0.3 percent in the Dec. 30 week for a respectable year-on-year pace of 2.8 percent vs. 1.7 percent in the prior week. The report noted that Dec. 26 was a holiday last year and a strong shopping day, a calendar factor that held back the year-on-year comparison. The report said same-store sales are likely to come in at 2.5 percent for the month, in line with the pre-holiday trend. Redbook is up later this morning followed by chain-store reports tomorrow.
