maiden voyage of its new CSeries jet. Pratt & Whitney is one
of the operating segments of diversified business conglomerate
United Technologies Corp.
Accredited by Transport Canada in February, the PW1500G engine utilizes Pratt & Whitney's Geared Turbofan architecture to power the aircraft. Leveraging indigenous technology, the engine uses an advanced gear system that facilitates the engine fan to operate at a different speed than the low-pressure compressor and turbine. In addition, micro-circuit internal cooling system enhances its durability and efficiency. Furthermore, a state-of-the-art coating technology cushions the engine's airfoils from high temperatures and harsh environments.
With 3,000 hours of ground and flight testing, the engine is likely to serve a vital role in the new Bombardier jets. Moving forward, the final assembling of the engines will be done at Pratt & Whitney Canada's Mirabel Aerospace Centre in Mirabel, Quebec.
