TSX Up Nearly 19 Points, Miners Gain on Gold Boost, Energy in the Green Despite Weak Oil
Canadian stocks were modestly higher in the first 30 minutes of today's session, with the S&P TSX Composite Index up nearly 19 points. Stronger prices for gold and copper helped lift mining stocks, which led the broad surge.
Except for health care and utilities, every major sector was in the green. Miners were up 0.59%, as gold and copper rise 0.14% and 0.46%, respectively. Energy stocks edged higher by 0.03%, despite lower crude oil prices (down 0.62% to $109.84 a barrel). Financials gained 0.09%.
Health care was down 0.17%, and utilities lost 0.06%.
