TSX At Close: All Sectors Positive, Mining The Biggest Gainer, Boosted By Sherritt and Centerra News
The TSX closed higher on a shortened Christmas Eve session, adding nearly 70 points. The exchange was boosted by higher metals prices (gold, silver and copper were higher), and by news from Sherritt and Centerra Gold.
Sherritt International (S.TO) rose 14.8% to $3.88 after it announced that it was selling its coal coal business for $946 million.
Centerra Gold (CG.TO) closed 4.8% higher to $4.16 (after hitting a high of $4.36) when it announced that it had agreed to exchange the Kyrgyz government's 32.7% stake in the company for half of Centerra's flagship Kumtor mine.
