Sector Update: Healthcare Shares Edge Lower
Top Healthcare Stocks
Healthcare stocks were narrowly lower this afternoon with the NYSE Healthcare Sector Index falling about 0.1% while shares of healthcare companies in the S&P 500 also slipped about 0.1% as a group.
In company news, Portola Pharma ( PTLA ) was ending with almost a 2% gain Wednesday after announcing positive Phase II data for its FDA-andexanet alfa and enoxaparin therapies.
According to the company, the drug was well tolerated with no serious adverse events. It said more detailed data will be presented at the Meeting of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis in Milwaukee, Wis.
Shares were up 1.7% at $24.42 each in late trade, earlier climbing to an intra-day high of $25.24 a share.
