BANGALORE--Outsourcing firm iGate Corp. (IGTE) Thursday said it has appointed former Infosys Ltd. (500209.BY)
executive Ashok Vemuri as the chief executive and president of the U.S. company.
Mr. Vemuri's appointment will be effective Sept. 16, the California-based company said in a statement. He will also
join the company's board, it added.
Mr. Vemuri was previously a member of the board of Infosys, India's second largest software exporter by sales. He was
also the head of Infosys' business in North America, the company's largest revenue generating market and led Infosys'
manufacturing services business. He left Infosys last month.
His appointment at iGate comes as the U.S. outsourcing company, which is listed on the Nasdaq Stock Market and employs
28,000 people mainly in India, emerges from a leadership crisis caused by the sudden departure of its former CEO and
President Phaneesh Murthy.
Mr. Murthy was fired from iGate in May for allegedly failing to report a relationship with a subordinate employee.
iGate fired him after the company received in the U.S. a complaint of sexual harassment against Mr. Murthy though an
investigation by an outside legal counsel hadn't uncovered any evidence of this.
Mr. Murthy was previously the global head of sales for Infosys and was responsible for expanding the Bangalore-based
outsourcing company's business in North America.
He left the company in 2002 after a former Infosys employee filed a lawsuit against him and the company in a
California court alleging sexual harassment by Mr. Murthy and wrongful termination.
After Mr. Murthy's exit from iGate, the company had appointed Gerhard Watzinger as its interim president and CEO.
Mr. Watzinger will temporarily remain with iGate in an advisory role to assist with Mr. Vemuri's transition, iGate
