Ford CEO Alan Mulally Won't Join Microsoft
Ford Motor Co. Chief Executive Alan Mulally said Tuesday he won't leave the auto maker to take the top job at Microsoft Corp., ending months of speculation about his future.
"I would like to end the Microsoft speculation because I have no other plans to do anything other than serve Ford," Mr. Mulally told the Associated Press in an interview. A Ford spokesperson confirmed the statement.
Microsoft has been searching for a new CEO since Steve Ballmer announced he planned to retire in August. Mr. Mulally has previously said he planned to remain at Ford through 2014, but he was among the candidates that Microsoft's board had been considering, according to people familiar with the matter.
Ford spokesman Jay Cooney said, "Alan made it perfectly clear that he wanted to end all speculation. He has no plans to do anything else other than continue serving Ford."
