Canada Stocks Close Higher; Most Sectors Rise, Bombardier Most Active
Canadian stocks closed higher on Monday, notching up a new 2-year high. Most sectors were higher lead by Metals and Mining and Energy, while Healthcare and Info Tech were a drag on the broader index.
Energy shares moved higher on Monday despite a decline in WTI crude oil which dipped below $100 per barrel for the first time since early July. Prices of crude oil were boosted during the summer as traders focused on the potential for a supply disruption after the Syrian regime launched a chemical weapons attack on its own people.
Bombardier (BBD-B.TO) was the most active share on the TSX climbing 4.3% with 14 million shares changing hands. Today, Bombardier, Inc. announced that Flexjet, LLC has placed 30 new firm orders for Learjet 85 aircraft. The options were purchased on September 5, 2013 as part of Flexjet's historic order for up to 245 Bombardier business jets.
