indentify itself, Assurant Employee Benefits, a unit of
) has renamed its national dental network.
Assurant's primary dental network will now be known as Assurant Dental Network. The earlier dental networks from Assurant - Dental Health Alliance (DHA) and DHA Premier have both been clubbed under the new name.
Assurant Dental Network has more than 100,000 dentists on its network, which makes it one of the biggest Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) dentist providers in U.S. A PPO allows insurance companies to negotiate directly with providers for dental services at a lower price than would typically be charged.
With the change of the name, customers will be able to easily recognize the Assurant brand.
Assurant Employee Benefits' dental plans encourage preventive treatment, allowing employees to achieve oral health while striving to minimize dental costs. A wide range of products, are available from managed care to true group indemnity products.
This initiative by the company will help it to ramp up its earnings going forward. For 2013 management continues to expect earnings for 2013 to decrease due to lower investment income and higher reserves for new LTD claims.
During the second quarter, Employee Benefits earnings totaled $11.5 million which was down 38% year over year. The segment, however, registered year-over-year sales growth of 17.4%, which was primarily driven by strong sales in dental (up 33.6% year over year).
Other players offering dental plans are CIGNA Corp. ( CI ), Aetna Inc. ( AET ) and UnitedHealth Group Inc. ( UNH ).
