Asian Stocks Mixed As Investors Eye Jobs Data
Asian shares were mixed ahead of U.S. monthly jobs data.
Monthly nonfarm payrolls in the United States are due on Friday. Economists polled by Bloomberg estimate a 180,000 jobs were created in August.
During U.S. hours on Friday, the Labor Department said August payrolls rose a less than expected 169,000 and the jobless rate declined to 7.3% from 7.4%. July payrolls also were also revised down by 50,000 to 112,000.
Australian shares were also cautious ahead of federal elections on Saturday. Polls indicate Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's minority Labor government will lose to Tony Abbott's Liberal-National coalition.
China Telecom ( CHA ) leaked advertisements on its website for AAPL's iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, according to the WSJ.
The Nikkei ended down 1.45% at 13,860.81, the Hang Seng up 0.1% at 22,621.22 and the Straits Times up 0.29% at 3,048.35.
