EU's Almunia: 2010 EU Budget Deficit/GDP Ratio To Grow -Report
PARIS -(Dow Jones)- The European Union's average budget deficit as a
percentage of gross domestic product will grow in 2010 before decreasing
slightly in 2011, the European economic and monetary affairs commissioner
Joaquin Almunia writes in Le Monde Monday.
The budget deficit should reach 6.9% in 2009, Almunia writes in a column.
Almunia says that the European Commission's recommendations to cut budget
deficits in thirteen European states are in complete harmony with European
leaders' commitments to continue to help the economy while planning for the
withdrawal of exceptional crisis measures.
"The consolidation of public finances is indissociable from the target of
growth," Almunia writes.
