Bayer: To Begin Phase III Florbetaben Trial For Alzheimer's
FRANKFURT -(Dow Jones)- Bayer Schering Pharma AG, a company belonging to Bayer
AG (BAYN.XE), said Monday it has enrolled the first patients in a Phase III
trial using florbetaben imaging to detect beta-Amyloid deposits in the brain, a
hallmark of Alzheimer's Disease.
Around 400 people are expected to be enrolled in the trial, with and without
manifest dementia.
"Currently there is no diagnostic tool on the market to facilitate the in vivo
diagnosis of the various dementia types including Alzheimer's disease," Thomas
Balzer, head of global clinical development diagnostic imaging at Bayer Schering
Pharma, said in a press statement.
The primary completion of the study is expected in 2011, however it won't be
finalized until 2014, Bayer said.
