India Min: BSNL Told To Not Source Chinese Equipment For Some
Areas
MUMBAI -(Dow Jones)- The Indian government has asked state-run
telecommunications firm Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. not to procure equipment from
Chinese companies for deployment in "sensitive" border areas, the junior
minister of communications and information technology said Monday.
The sensitive areas include states having international borders with China,
Bangladesh, Myanmar and Pakistan, Gurudas Kamat said in the lower house of
parliament.
"A meeting was held with telecom operators who expressed concerns over such
ban. The matter is still under consideration of the government," Kamat said in
his reply to lawmakers' questions.
