GM Opel's Reilly Says Ruesselsheim Plant Of Great Importance
WIESBADEN, Germany -(Dow Jones)- General Motors Co. Wednesday said the
Ruesselsheim plant of German unit Adam Opel GmbH is of great importance for the
brand, particularly due to the technical development center.
In the course of restructuring the unit jobs will be cut, said Nick Reilly,
Opel interim chief, after a meeting with Roland Koch, governor of the German
state of Hesse. He declined to say how many employees would be affected,
pointing to the meetings with workers' representatives in the afternoon.
On Tuesday, Reilly said the company aims to keep Opel's Kaiserslautern and
Bochum plants open.
Detroit-based GM recently decided to keep the struggling Opel unit, going back
on a planned sale to Canadian auto parts company Magna International Inc. (MGA)
and Russia's Sberbank (SBER.RS). That decision angered German Chancellor Angela
Merkel and other German politicians who had favored a sale to Magna.
