Parts Of Southern Philippines Under State Of Emergency After
Massacre
MANILA (AFP)--President Gloria Arroyo on Tuesday put parts of the troubled
southern Philippines under a state of emergency following a massacre of at least
22 people there, her spokesman said.
Authorities previously said more than 40 people had been abducted on Monday by
gunmen linked to Maguindanao governor Andal Ampatuan, the head of a Muslim clan
who is part of President Gloria Arroyo's ruling coalition.
