EU Leaders Must Go To Copenhagen To Boost Climate Talks-UK Min

LONDON -(Dow Jones)- All European Union leaders must go to Copenhagen in December to spur on climate change talks to cut greenhouse gas emissions, the U.K. Energy and Climate Change Secretary Ed Miliband said Monday.

About 65 world leaders have confirmed they will attend the Copenhagen talks, including around half of EU leaders.

"Europe has a strong voice on the world stage and a strong record on climate change. But to help push for the most ambitious deal in Copenhagen possible, we need Europe's environment ministers to press their own Prime Ministers and Presidents to go to Copenhagen," Miliband said following the final meeting of EU environment ministers ahead of the negotiations.

U.K. Prime Minister Gordon Brown has said he will attend the talks.

More than 190 countries are preparing to meet in Copenhagen to hammer out an agreement to cut greenhouse gas emissions, aimed at limiting a rise in global temperatures and preventing dangerous climate change.
