WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- The Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission announced
Friday five senior staff appointments, including an expert who worked with
victims of Bernie Madoff.
Commission Chairman Phil Angelides on Friday released the names of five new
staff members, including senior investigator Thomas Borgers, a former senior
investigator-in-charge at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. Borgers most
recently helped victims of the Bernie Madoff ponzi scheme plan their financial
recovery.
Christopher Seefer, previously a senior investigator with the Office of Thrift
Supervision, will take on the role of the commission's assistant director. A
former Citigroup Inc. (C) equities trader, Carl McCadden will be a financial
investigator. McCadden also worked as an investment banker at Credit Suisse
Group (CS) and Bear Stearns.
The commission's special business counsel will be Gary Cohen, a partner at the
Sidley Austin LLP law firm. Mina Simhai, formerly an attorney at Hogan and
Hartson, will be its investigative counsel.
The U.S. Congress created the commission earlier this year to investigate the
causes of the financial meltdown. The group has the power to subpoena witnesses.
Angelides said last week that the group expects to begin public hearings in
December and will publish its final report no later than Dec. 15, 2010.
