Commerzbank CFO: Not Experiencing Credit Crunch In Germany
FRANKFURT -(Dow Jones)- Germany isn't experiencing a credit crunch at present,
the Chief Financial Officer of Commerzbank AG (CBK.XE) Eric Strutz said Friday.
Strutz was participating in a panel discussion on the future of banking in
Frankfurt with James P. Gorman, co-president and incoming chief executive of
U.S. bank Morgan Stanley (MS).
Strutz added that the era of monoline banking, in which banks focus on one
business activity such as investment or commercial banking, is no longer
effective. "We should have more well balanced business models in the future,"
Strutz said.
As regulators consider new capital requirements for banks, Gorman said capital
rules should better reflect the risks specific to a bank. Moreover, capital
requirements within a bank should vary depending on the risks undertaken by
various units such as commercial and investment banking, Gorman said.
Coordinating regulatory efforts will be crucial to creating effective banking
rules in the wake of the financial crisis, Gorman said.
