German Econ Min: Further Credit Crunch Must Be Discouraged
BERLIN -(Dow Jones)- Ways of discouraging a future credit crunch among
Germany's banks will be on the agenda for a summit of representatives from the
country's businesses, banks and trade unions Dec. 2, Economics Minister Rainer
Bruederle said Thursday.
As economic conditions improve, the German government is obliged to return the
work of pumping credit into Europe's largest economy to banks, Bruederle said,
speaking at a retail industry conference in Berlin.
On Wednesday, Chancellor Angela Merkel said the December meeting will discuss
methods for overcoming the economic and financial crisis.
Merkel also said Germany's cabinet will work on a plan for a "sustainable,
economically viable and environmentally friendly energy supply," to be published
by October 2010.
