Canada Introduces Legislation For Free Trade With Jordan
OTTAWA -(Dow Jones)- The Canadian government Tuesday introduced legislation to
implement free trade agreement with Jordan, and related accords on labor
cooperation and the environment.
"The Canada-Jordan FTA, once implemented, will open doors to this growing
economy and give Canada a foothold in the broader Middle East and North African
market," International Trade Minister Stockwell Day said in a statement.
The statement said the free-trade agreement will eliminate tariffs on more
than 99% of Canadian exports to Jordan, and benefit key sectors including
forestry, manufacturing and agricultural products.
Parallel agreements on labor and environment will help ensure progress on
labor rights and environment protection, the statement said.
Bilateral trade between Canada and Jordan totaled C$92 million in 2008.
