BSkyB To Control Ad Sales For MTV
LONDON -(Dow Jones)- British Sky Broadcasting Group PLC (BSY.LN) has taken
over the sales duties for Viacom Inc.'s (VIAB) MTV channels in a further
consolidation of broadcasters' television ad sales houses.
MTV Networks International has appointed Sky Media as its exclusive
advertising sales representative making Sky Media will the manager of MTVNI's
advertising sales in the U.K. and Ireland for all its pay TV services across
music, kids and entertainment, which includes MTV, VIVA, Nickelodeon, Comedy
Central and BET, BSkyB said in a press release.
The five-year agreement will take effect from Jan. 1. All the channels are
currently represented by Viacom Brand Solutions.
"These agreements will really strengthen MTVNI's position in the U.K. and
Ireland and help us deliver even more robust growth in the future," said David
Lynn, executive vice president, managing director, for MTVN U.K. & Ireland and
Australia. He added that the new partnership will allow MTVNI to invest more in
making great content for its channels.
Sky and MTVNI have also signed a second agreement to extend the distribution
for the carriage of the MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon and Comedy Central channel
families on Sky's Direct-to-Home (DTH) and Sky Player platforms in the U.K. and
Ireland.
