Taiwan APEC Representative: Hope China Trade Pact Signed 2010SINGAPORE -(Dow Jones)- Taiwan's representative at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum said Friday he hopes Taiwan and China will sign their planned trade and economic pact in 2010. Lien Chan, the former vice president of Taiwan, said at a news briefing the cross-strait pact will be the main topic of conversation during his meeting with China President Hu Jintao on the sidelines of the APEC forum in Singapore. He didn't say when the meeting will be held. "We hope we can push forward ECFA (the economic cooperation framework agreement) to help cross-strait economic and trade relationships," Lien said. The framework agreement will include the elimination of trade tariffs similar to those planned by China and other Asian economies, which will help prevent Taiwan's economy being marginalized, he said. -Wynne Wang contributed to this article; Dow Jones Newswires; wynne.wang@ dowjones.com (END) Dow Jones Newswires 11-13-090506ET Copyright (c) 2009 Dow Jones & Company, Inc. |
