Electricity Of Vietnam Plans 1,200-MW Hydropower PlantHANOI -(Dow Jones)- State-owned Electricity of Vietnam Group plans to build a hydroelectric power plant with 1,200 megawatts of capacity in the northern province of Lai Chau, subject to National Assembly approval, the government said Thursday. The Lai Chau plant, located about 450 kilometers north of Hanoi, will likely cost VND33 trillion ($1.85 billion), the government said in a statement posted on its Web site. EVN will start construction in 2011 and plans to begin operations in 2016, it said.
