No Legal Basis" For Karzai Re-Election - AbdullahKABUL (AFP)--Former foreign minister Abdullah Abdullah, who quit Afghanistan's troubled presidential election race this week, said on Wednesday that the re- election of his rival Hamid Karzai had "no legal basis." Abdullah, who pulled out of a run-off poll scheduled after more than a million votes cast in the Aug. 20 election were deemed fraudulent, said Karzai lacked legitimacy after being re-appointed by electoral commissioners. "This decision does not have a legal basis," he told reporters. (END) Dow Jones Newswires 11-04-090313ET Copyright (c) 2009 Dow Jones & Company, Inc. |
