NY Fed Communications Head Stepping Down, Heading To Reuters

By Michael S. Derby, Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

CHATHAM, Mass. -(Dow Jones)- The head of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York public affairs operation is stepping down and heading to a similar position at Thomson Reuters Corp (TRI).

Calvin Mitchell, who was the executive vice president of the Communications Group at the New York Fed, will become the financial information company's global head of corporate affairs in November, the company said Thursday. He will be based in New York, the firm said.

Mitchell joined the New York Fed in 2005, serving during a tumultuous period for the bank that functions as the Fed's point of connection with Wall Street. The New York Fed said he will serve as a special adviser to bank president William Dudley until his final day on Nov. 13.

Mitchell's tenure came as the Fed became increasingly open about its operations, making public more information about its actions, especially in connection with its various emergency lending activities introduced in the last two years.

Mitchell has served in both the public and private sectors, working at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations, the Treasury Department, the White House and the National Security Council.

There is no word yet about possible replacements.
