IMF Official: No Plans Yet To Resume Reviews Of Argentina
WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- The International Monetary Fund has no plans yet to
conduct an assessment on Argentina's economy, Caroline Atkinson, director of
external relations at the fund, said Thursday.
Argentina cut off relations with the IMF in 2006 after paying back the $9.8
billion it owed, but the government has signaled a willingness to allow the
fund's annual Article IV reviews to resume as it seeks to return to global
credit markets.
However, Economy Minister Amado Boudou said earlier this month that the IMF
has agreed to conditions that any reviews would be "strictly technical and have
a very low profile."
When asked about Argentina's concerns that the review could become
politicized, Atkinson said, "We don't discuss political issues, we're focused on
economic and technical issues."
