LAGOS, Nigeria -(Dow Jones)- U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will visit at least five African countries in early August, including Kenya, the birthplace of President Barack Obama's father, U.S. and Nigerian officials told Dow Jones Newswires.

Clinton will begin the trip in Kenya, where she will lead a delegation of U.S. businessmen to a forum of the African Growth and Opportunity Act, meant to improve U.S.-African trade relations.

Clinton will also visit Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation and the fifth biggest supplier of oil to the U.S., and South Africa, Africa's biggest economy.

Visits to Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Liberia have been tentatively planned, but details have yet to be finalized, according to the officials.

Obama visited Ghana earlier this month where he delivered a major speech on U.S.-Africa policy, and many African countries felt snubbed by his choice of Ghana.
