Nurses To Join Obama For Health-Care Speech Wednesday
WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- The American Nurses Association will join President
Barack Obama when he pushes for more progress on health care in a Rose Garden
speech later Wednesday.
An administration official said the nurses, part of the nearly 3-million-
strong organization, will be there to back the drive to overhaul the health-care
system.
Obama's comments on health care, scheduled for 1:05 p.m. EDT, will be his
latest effort to prod lawmakers into producing a bill before their August
recess. He sharpened his tone on the issue earlier this week, warning opponents
that the politically divisive initiative will get done this year despite their
skepticism.
On Tuesday, Democrats in the House introduced a bill that would impose new
taxes on the wealthy and penalize companies that don't provide health insurance
to their workers. The Senate is still crafting legislation in hopes of a measure
that both parties can support.
