EU Sends Slovakia Formal Request On Electronic Toll CollectionBRUSSELS -(Dow Jones)- The European Commission said Thursday it has sent a formal request to Slovakia to understand whether the country's award of an electronic toll collection service by the national Motorway Company is in line with European Union rules. "The Slovak authorities could have violated the principles of equal treatment and non-discrimination," as they excluded three tenderers from the contest, the commission said in a statement. The letter is a first step in an infringement procedure, which could ultimately lead to a case before the European Court of Justice. Slovakia has now two months to respond to the commission's letter. -By Alessandro Torello, Dow Jones Newswires; +32 2 741 14 88; alessandro.torello@dowjones.com (END) Dow Jones Newswires 05-14-090654ET Copyright (c) 2009 Dow Jones & Company, Inc. |
