The importance of business websites is growing not only year on year but month on month ; now, more than ever, a business website can make or break a business. If your business already has a website you are probably already aware of the important role that this can play in your business success. However, if your business website is not optimized for search engines then your website could be missing out on a significant number of visitors looking for just the product or service that you offer.

SEO, or search engine optimisation, is a technique that helps your website to be found online when people type a specific search term in to a search engine. Making sure that your website can be found through Google, or other major search engines, will mean that people who are genuinely interested in your product or service will be landing on your website.

There is an illusion that there is an air of mystery and intrigue around search engine optimisation that means it can only be undertaken by so called experts and that the business owners themselves can do very little to help their business in this respect. But,  this is just not true!

Whilst there are elements of SEO that are shrouded in intrigue there are many simple principles that small business owners can employ to help their business website rank in search engines. Business owners are not helpless when it comes to helping their businesses rank in the search engines; in fact there are many simple things that business owners can do in order to give their business website the best possible chance if ranking in the search engines.

The main thing to do when looking at optimizing your business website for search engines is to ensure that you are focused on the correct keywords; there are many tools available to help you with this. It is then vital to write great copy, that not only includes your relevant keywords, but also is interesting and appealing to the reader. 

Submit your website to the search engines, keep updating content regularly through a blog or news section on your website, and try to gain links in to your site from other relevant sites through the use of guest articles or comments.
