Wells Fargo Maintaining History of Rewarding Longs in Wake of Earnings-Driven Pre-Market Moves

Wells Fargo ( WFC ) is due with its Q1 results in the pre-market session on Friday, April 11, and analysts polled by Capital IQ expect the company to report a profit of $0.97 per share on revenue of $20.70 billion.

The stock is mixed between the sessions, with 14 reversal moves compared to 11 widening examples in the last 25 quarters. It slightly favors longs.

Looking deeper into the performance data, WFC has recorded an earnings-driven extended-hours decline in 17 quarters and reversed direction in next-day regular session trade in 10 of those events, or 59% of the time. On the plus-side, WFC has posted an earnings-driven extended-hours gain in eight quarters, reversing direction the following day in four of those events, or 50% of the time.

On Jan. 13, 2014, WFC dipped 0.5% in pre-market trade despite topping Q4 estimates. The stock reversed direction in the regular session, ending with a slim 0.07% advance.

On Jan. 16, 2008, the stock gained 4.3% in the pre-market hours after reporting in line with Q4 results. The gain was trimmed in regular trading, leaving shares up 3.3% at the closing bell.
