Visa Says U.S. Payment Volume Fell 3% in April (V)

Credit card issuer Visa Inc ( V ) on Wednesday reported some bearish consumer spending trends.

The San Francisco-based company said that U.S. aggregate payments volume fell 3% in April from the year-ago period.

Visa also posted the following April stats:

  • U.S. credit payments volume rose 8%.
  • Debit payments volume growth fell 12%.
  • Excluding currency fluctuations, cross-border volume growth rose 13% globally.
  • Processed transactions fell 1% globally.

Visa shares fell $2.62. or -2.2%, in premarket trading Wednesday.

Shares of Visa ( V ) have a .73% dividend yield, based on last night's closing stock price of $120.28. The stock has technical support in the $113-$114 price area. The stock is trading near the all-time high price levels of $125 a share.
