US Futures Gain Amid Positive Economic Data

U.S. stock futures pushed higher Thursday as February retail sales and weekly jobless claims both came in better than expected.

February retail sales rose 0.3% compared with the consensus for a 0.2% increase and recovering from the revised 0.6% decline in January. Also out Thursday morning, initial jobless claims for the week ended March 8 fell 9,000 to 315,000, compared with the 330,000 consensus, while the week ending March 1 was revised upward by 1,000 to 324,000.

Separately, the February import-price index rose 0.9% compared with the consensus for a 0.7% increase, and following a 0.1% increase in January.

Later Thursday , at 10:00 a.m. ET, January business inventories are expected to come in with a rise of 0.4%, compared with a 0.5% increase in December.

In equities, Dollar General ( DG ) fell 1.8% in recent pre-market trading after the discount retailer reported fiscal Q4 results and Q1 guidance that were below analysts' expectations. JetBlue ( JBLU ) added 4% after saying it will sell its in-flight entertainment unit LiveTV to Thales Group for $400 million.
