Initial jobless claims for the week ended July 5 are expected to hold at 315,000 (consensus range 305,000 to 326,000). The report is due for release at 8:30 a.m. ET Thursday.

The 2,000 U.S. initial claims rise to 315,000 in the final week of June capped the two-week drop to a lean 313,000 (was 312,000) in the prior week and 314,000 in the BLS survey week from 318,000 at the start of the month, as the figures oscillate closer to the 298,000 cycle-low from early-May than the 345,000 recent-high at the end of April.
