UPDATE: Peabody Energy Up Nearly 8%, Moves Away From Near Yr Lows on Q1 Earnings

Peabody Energy ( BTU ) has surged nearly 8% and away from near a year low $27.11 since opening bell, after gaining 2.4% pre-bell. Today, BTU reported Q1 earnings of $0.67 per share, ex one-time items, compared with the Thomson Reuters consensus of $0.54. In the prior-year period, the company posted $0.72 EPS.

Revenues were $2.04 bln, up 17% from $1.74 bln in the same quarter last year.

Analysts were expecting revenues of $2.09 bln.

The company expects Q2 EPS $0.40 - $0.65, ex one-time items, in line with the

Street view of $0.59 EPS.
