Upcoming Video Games for 2013

There are literally dozens of video games being released in 2013. Here are a few to watch for:

March 18, LEGO City: Undercover (Wii U)

The mission of LEGO City: Undercover is to assume the identity of the undercover detective Chase McCain and use his clever disguises to stop the fiendish Rex Fury and end his crime wave in LEGO City. Players run, drive and fly through the city and will use the Wii U GamePad controller as a new police gadget which can scan for hidden clues, receive mission updates for criminals and place waypoints on an overhead city map that displays their position in real time.

April 16, Injustice: Gods Among Us (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U)

From DC Comics and the makers of the definitive fighting game franchise Mortal Kombat comes Injustice: Gods Among Us. Players follow a deep, original story which complements the bold fighting action and pits many of the great heroes and villains from the DC universe together. In this world, the line between good and evil blur and our greatest heroes become our greatest threat.

May 14, Metro: Last Light (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)

In this sequel to the cult classic Metro 2033, Players are thrown into the year 2034, beneath the ruins of post-apocalyptic Moscow, in the tunnels of the Metro, where what's left of mankind are besieged by mutants who stalk the catacombs beneath and hunt amidst the poisoned skies above. There are also struggles within the station-cities of the Metro; the people are fighting for the ultimate power, a doomsday device from the military vaults of D6. As Artyom, burdened by guilt but driven by hope, players must fight the civil war which threatens to wipe humanity from the face of the earth forever. This first-person shooter video game features action-oriented gameplay with a combination of survival horror elements.

June 9, Animal Crossing: New Leaf (Nintendo 3DS)

Animal Crossing: New Leaf is the latest in the charming community-building franchise for Nintendo 3DS. Players begin the game living in a tent which they will upgrade and expand. The game's new capabilities include: modifying the character's appearance, furnishing the living space, and the ability to swim in the ocean that borders the village. When the player becomes mayor, they continue to boost development of the rural village. Players also have the ability to view homes of other players who are tagged through StreetPass connections.

July 30, Deadfall Adventures (Xbox 360, PC)

Set in the year 1938, adventurer James Lee Quatermain reluctantly escorts his former colleague U.S. agent Jennifer Goodwin to an Egyptian temple complex to retrieve an artifact called 'The Heart of Atlantis.' A man of many talents, except holding on to money, Quarterman doesn't believe in the reputed invigorating qualities of the artifact. He also doesn't care that a division of the Ahnenerbe, the Nazi department specialized in the occult, is after the Heart as well. But his perspective changes as he finds himself immersed in a hunt across the globe. The action-adventure game seamlessly combines first person shooter experience with puzzle-solving and exploration.

August 20, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist (Xbox 360, PS3, PC, Wii U)

The seventh installment of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell series, Blacklist, has Sam Fisher, the head of the newly formed 4th Echelon unit, and his team of 12 hunting down the terrorists organization which is planning a series of attacks against the U.S. Time is not on their side as the terror ultimatum called the Blacklist is initiated and they must stop it before it reaches zero. Fisher answers only to the President of the United States and therefore is the most lethal agent to ever exist; he has the ultimate freedom to protect innocents with the use of limitless force, ability to break every law, and to become the globe's deadliest operative. If successful, the President will deny you exist. But if you fail, millions will die.

September 17, Grand Theft Auto V (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)

In a re-imagined present-day city of Los Santos and its surrounding hills, countryside and beaches, the next chapter of the Grand Theft Auto universe gives players open-world freedom and the ability to switch between the three characters constantly. Grand Theft Auto V has mission-based gameplay and online multiplayer which focuses on the "pursuit of the almighty dollar." Players will be able to participate in multiple activities including yoga, triathlons, jet skiing, base jumping, tennis and golf.

October, Pokemon X and Y (Nintendo 3DS)

The first Pokemon adventure for Nintendo 3DS, Pokemon X and Y introduces many new species of Pokemon featuring three new starter pokemon: rodent-like grass-type Chespin, the vulpine Fire-type Fennekin, and the frog-like Water-type Froakie. There are also two new Legendary mascots: the red airborne Pokemon named Yveltal that takes the form of the letter Y while in flight and a blue cervine Pokemon called Xerneas with prismatic antlers and eyes the bear the letter X. The sixth generation of the main series of Pokemon games, Pokemon X and Y are played in an entirely 3D world, from the environments to the characters to the battle sequences. "Gotta catch 'em all!"

Holiday, Watch Dogs (Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, PC, Wii U)

In the ground-breaking, open-world, action-adventure game, Watch Dogs, players have the ability to hack into various electronic systems to obtain and control information or to destroy those devices completely. As the antihero Aiden Pearce, the player's goal is to take down a corrupt system by finding specific targets to kill, evading the police and following potential victims in order to stop their would-be killers. The game combines stealth components and parkour and has the mechanics of cover-based third-person shooter. There is also an online multiplayer element in which another player can control surveillance cameras in an attempt to hack the main player.
