(RTTNews.com) - United Continental Holdings Inc. ( UAL ) Monday said it is outsourcing more than 600 jobs at 12 airports in US as a part of its cost cutting measures. The jobs being outsourced included employees working in check-in, baggage-handling, and customer service areas.

United has outsourced jobs at at airports in Albuquerque, New Mexico; Buffalo, New York; Charleston, South Carolina; Charlotte, North Carolina; Columbus, Ohio; Des Moines, Iowa; Detroit; El Paso, Texas; Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Wichita, Kansas; Pensacola, Florida; and Salt Lake City.

The initiative is part of the company's efforts to improve its bottom line as operating costs continue to eat into its profits. Although, this plan can reduce expenses but can also backfire by destroying customer service.

American Airlines Group Inc. ( AAL ), Delta Air Lines Inc. ( DAL ) and Alaska Air Group Inc. ( ALK ) have already outsourced a part of its work to other vendors.
