Tyson Foods Reports a Rise in Q4 Profit on Lower Revenue; Declares a Rise in Quarterly Dividend (TSN)

On Monday food production company Tyson Foods, Inc. ( TSN ) reported a rise in its fourth quarter earnings despite a dip in revenue. The company also declared and raised its fourth quarter dividend.

The Springdale, Arizona-based company reported fourth quarter earnings of $185 million, or 51 cents per share, up from $97 million, or 26 cents per share, in the same quarter last year. On an adjusted basis the company earned 55 cents per share, beating analyst estimates of 44 cents per share.

Revenue for the company fell -0.4% to $8.37 billion. This missed the Wall Street expectation of $8.49 billion.

Tyson also declared its quarterly dividend payable on December 14, 2012 with an ex-dividend date of November 28, 2012. The dividend payout increased +11.1% from 4.5 cents per share to 5 cents per share, or 20 cents annualized. The dividend yield is 1.18%.

Tyson shares were up 57 cents, or +3.38%, in premarket trading on Monday.

Shares of Tyson Foods ( TSN ) have a .95% dividend yield, based on Friday's closing stock price of $16.88. The stock has technical support in the $14-$15 price area. If the shares can firm up, we see overhead resistance around the $18-$19 price levels.
