Toronto's main stock index is expected to open lower on Wednesday, as investors await the results of the U.S. Federal Reserve's two-day meeting.

Investors will remain on their toes prior to the release at 2 p.m. ( ET ) of Fed's decision relating to its monetary easing program, including its outlook on the economy.

Stronger prices of key commodities could also help lift stocks from the energy and materials sectors. Gold futures rose 0.38% to $1,371.8, and copper edged up 0.04% to $7,007.75. Brent crude was up 0.31% to $106.35 a barrel, while U.S. crude rose 0.18% to $98.62.
