TSX Recovers Slightly Over Final Hour, But Still Closes 160 Pts Lower

By MT Newswires April 23, 2012, 04:08:57 PM EDT

Canada's main stock market recovered around a dozen points over the final hour in crawling back toward the 12,000 level, but it still ended the day down around 150 points - led by selling in commodity stocks - as disappointing Chinese and European manufacturing data and political tension in France and the Netherlands raised concerns about the pace of the global economic recovery.

Investors are afraid this will have a knock-on demand for commodities such as oil, the price of which declined today.
