TSX Pushes Higher, Now Up 57 Points, Industrials Biggest Gainer in Broad Surge

Canada's main stock index rose 57 points in the mid-afternoon session, building on the midday gain of 51 points. Gains were across major sectors, with industrials posting the biggest advance of 0.78%. It was followed by healthcare, which rose 0.70%. Financials came in third, up 0.52%.

Despite lower prices for key commodities, mining and energy stocks were higher by 0.46% and 0.28%, respectively. Info tech also remained strong, up 0.09%, even as Blackberry (BB.TO) shares tumble nearly 3% on news the troubled company agreed to go private for $4.7 billion.

Utilities, the biggest gainer at midday, rose 0.45% in the mid-afternoon trade.
