TSX Gives Back Some Gains, Up 73 Points Mid-Afternoon; Healthcare Widens Loss

The TSX has cut down its early gains to 73 points in mid-afternoon trading after healthcare stocks widened their losses and industrials gave back some of their gains. But the benchmark index remained strong, as easing tensions in Russia and Ukraine helped lift investor sentiment.

Healthcare, the only decliner among sectors, was down by 0.60%, with Valeant Pharmaceuticals (VRX.TO) down 2%.

Meanwhile, industrials rose 1.01%, while info tech was up 0.74%. Miners and energy advanced 0.34% and 0.08%, respectively, along with copper and crude oil prices . Financials were up 0.73%.


Volume traded so far was more than 171 million shares. The most heavily traded stock was Bombardier (BBD-B.TO).
