Canada's benchmark index may open lower on Tuesday, as indicated by stock futures, with copper and natural gas prices dropping.

September futures on the S&P TSX index were down 0.02% in recent trading.

Investors will focus their attention on BMO (BMO.TO) and Scotiabank (BNS.TO) after the big Canadian banks both reported stronger quarterly profit.

The TSX reached record levels in the previous session, boosted by Tim Hortons (THI.TO) that perked up after a confirmation of merger talks with Burger King.
