TSX Close: TSX Pares Earlier Gains, Ends 25 Points Lower on Late-Day Decline

The Toronto stock market closed lower on Friday, losing ground in the final hour of trading after being in positive territory for much of the session.

The S&P TSX Composite Index finished down 25 points at day lows of 12,383.

Energy and gold stock were higher as crude and bullion prices rose.

The TSX's materials sector added 1.2% while energy was up 1%, offset by losses in information technology (-1%), utilities (-0.5%) and financials (-0.3%).

Heavily traded CGA Mining (CGA.TO) rose 12% while Manulife Financial (MFC.TO) shed 0.3%. Kinross Gold (K.TO) and B2Gold (BTO.TO) were active gainers.
